Choreography and Advanced Teaching Skills

Leading to the CYQ Certificate in Advanced Studio Instruction, Level 3

The Certificate in Choreography and Advanced Teaching Skills is one of the three core course modules of the CYQ Certificate in Advanced Studio Instruction. It can also be taken as a stand-alone course. The course is a highly practical and comprehensive examination of aerobic routine design in a variety of styles, with systematic routine delivery methods, musical interpretation and advanced teaching skills.

"Choreography and Advanced Teaching Skills"

Applying the principles of choreography design to a variety of group exercise programmes

Includes advanced CV training principles, fundamentals of aerobic instruction, choreography approaches, teaching styles and communication and interaction.

TARGET CANDIDATES

This course is designed for:

Individuals who wish to work towards the CYQ Certificate in Advanced Studio Instruction
Exercise to Music instructors who wish to enhance their qualifications
Those who are already working as Advanced Instructors but who lack recognised qualifications

PREREQUISITES

Candidates must be experienced instructors, aged 18 or over
They must already hold a Level 2 Certificate in Exercise to Music Instruction
Candidates must also be teaching Exercise to Music classes on a regular basis

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The 3 day course is held in Cambridge and covers the following subjects:

Advanced cadiovascular training systems
Choreography design techiniques, including:
Musical interpretation
Professional qualities and teaching style
Communication and interaction

Note: candidates will be sent a pre-course Study Pack prior to the start of the course. The Study Pack covers knowledge of the areas listed above, together with self-assessment tasks to enable candidates to check their learning. The Study Pack must be completed prior to the course.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE

Prerequisites

Any of the following qualifications are essential pre-requisites to this course. You must hold a current (dated within the past three years) certificate or have maintained Continued Professional Development in these areas.
