CYQ Certificate in Gym-based Instruction, Level 2 - Practical Element Only
For students who have already achieved Exercise & Fitness Knowledge Level 2 and wish to take the Practical Element of Gym Instruction only

TARGET CANDIDATES
- Students who have already achieved an NVQ Level 2 Certificate in fitness instruction and who wish to take the practical exercise instruction element only of the Gym Instructor course.
- For example, if a student who has completed the full Certificate in Level 2 ETM Instruction and wishes to also qualify as a Gym Instructor, they need only take the practical element of the Certificate in Gym-based Instruction.
PREREQUISITES
Candidates must already hold:
- NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Exercise & Fitness Knowledge or equivalent
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The practical side of each course is 4 full days. The course is held at the YMCA in Cambridge and covers the following subjects:
- Safe and effective warm-up
- Cardiovascular component
- Resistance component
- Cool down, including exercises to develop flexibilty
ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
Practical assessment of qualification is conducted at the YMCA Cambridge and is in three parts:
- Plan and prepare a practical Gym-based session
- Instruct a gym-based exercise session
- Note: you will be required to bring a volunteer with you to take part in the exercise session
- Evaluate coaching sessions and develop personal coaching practice

8 & 9 and 15 & 16 March 2010: Assessments 22/23 April 2010
COURSE 2: 4 days
21 & 22 and 26 & 27 June 2010: Assessments 29/30 July 2010
COURSE 3: 4 days
13 & 14 and 18 & 19 September 2010: Assessments 14/15 October 2010
COURSE 4: 4 days
8 & 9 and 13 & 14 November 2010: Assessments 16/17 December 2010
