The Certificate in Business & Marketing Skills for the Fitness Professional is one of the three CYQ Diploma in Personal Training course modules. It can also be taken as a stand-alone qualification. The course comprises how to set up a business, finance and planning, understanding consumer behaviour, market research and promotion and will enable the Fitness Professional to prepare a business plan and marketing strategy for their business.

TARGET CANDIDATES
This course is designed for:
- Instructors who are seeking to work towards the CYQ Diploma in Personal Training
- Those wanting to set up their own business working in the Fitness Industry
- Individuals who wish to promote their helath, exercise and fitness related services
- Gym Instructors or Fitness Supervisors who are seeking to enhance their qualifications
- Those who are already working as Personal Trainers but who lack a recognised qualification
PREREQUISITES
Candidates must be aged 18 or over and must already hold:
- Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction or equivalent
- Note: if applying for the full Certificate in Personal Training, candidates must hold a Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instruction
- NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Exercise & Fitness Knowledge
- Candidates should provide ongoing industry experience
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Online course covers the theoretical elements of the following subjects:
- Business planning
- Researching an idea
- Setting up a business
- Market research
- Situational analysis
- Consumer behaviour
- Defining the business – aims, strategy
- Promoting the business – product, pricing, placing and promotion
ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
Assessment is as follows:
- Complete a Business Plan Project as if your business was starting today, outlining
- Your client base
- The services you will offer
- The market research you have conducted and your target market
- Cash flow and promotional plan
- Your business objectives
The Business Plan is submitted to the YMCA in Cambridge for assessment.
