Online Course Information

This page should be read in addition to the General Course Information page. Please take a few moments to read the following carefully before booking your Online Course.

Is an Online Course for You?

Please ask yourself the following questions before signing up:
  • Do you have a computer?
  • Do you have a printer (see Course Materials and Resources below)?
  • Are you familiar with using a computer?
  • Do you have broadband?
  • Are you self-motivated?
  • Do you prefer learning through reading and study rather than doing?
  • Are you happy working on your own?
  • Are you able to plan your work on your own and keep to it?
  • If you answer "no" to any of these questions, you may be better suited to a Full-time course working with others.

    Software Required

    The Online Courses have been designed to work on most systems. However, we recommend you use Internet Explorer Version 6 or higher. To check the version you are using, click on Help in the menu bar above then About Internet Explorer. If you need to upgrade your version, click here.

    Online Support

    When you sign up for an Online Course you will receive an email from your Online Tutor who will arrange to ring you and answer any queries you may have. Please note: all queries must go through the Online Tutor and not the Cambridge Office.

    Online Course Resources

    All course materials and resources are delivered to you online. But you may print out course resources if you wish. You will therefore need a printer and paper. Please note: flash animations do not print out - you should make notes on these as they appear.

    Portfolios

    Guidance is provided to enable you to print out and prepare your Portfolio of Evidence. Please note: all Portfolios must be printed out and completed before Practical Training - you will not be permitted to attend Practical Training if your Portfolio has not been completed.

    Lesson Plans

    For courses that require Lesson Plans to be drawn up: these must be completed in draft form before attending Practical Training so that they can be checked during training and feedback given. Originals of final plans must be sent in to the Cambridge YMCA Office one week before Practical Assessment They will be marked and returned on Practical Assessment Day.

    Theory Papers

    For courses where a Theory Paper is taken during Practical Training: in view of the limited time available during Practical Training, you will be expected to complete revision for your Theory Paper before attending Practical Training.

    Discounts

    Please note: from time to time our website will advertise discounts on courses (see Prices, Deposits and Discounts). Discounts, however, cannot be booked online and must be booked through Julie Crofts at the Cambridge YMCA Office or by telephone on 01223 273813.
